Sequential Figure & Ground
I established a theme throughout the project by experimenting with sketches focused on rhythmic patterns, shapes, value transitions, and flow. The sketches that most inspired my outcome were flow, shape, and rhythmic patterns. In my design, flow is represented as the combination of letters and numbers that guide the viewer’s eyes downward. Shape is depicted through the overlaying elements that combine forms and the negative space around them. A rhythmic pattern is illustrated by the repeating color transitions from black to white. The Gestalt theories are more prominent in my redesign, with many significant and minor moments emphasizing the figure-ground relationship.

Process Sketches
Exploring flow, rhythmic pattern, shape, and value transition
Before
Lots of bold letters bleeding off the page and not a lot of variety in typefaces
After
More variety of letters and more uses of different typefaces
